What we’re looking for in your solution

Your solution should have proven technical feasibility and is ready to be further developed for this purpose. It’s safe to use, delivers consistent results and contributes to delivering the best possible experience for our customers.

We are looking for (digital) solutions in the various steps that our customers experience during the entire paint process. We see opportunities in several areas, but don’t let the following list limit you:

  • Digital experience of products and services through visualization technologies like VR, AR and holograms, design (CAD/CAM) and gamification.
  • Improve customer experience, for example through customers’ real-time process control, feedback bot, loyalty program, training platform and more
  • Digitally enabled product offering and services and smart feature in e-sales platform such as color on demand and maintenance solutions

Background

You will find our paints and coatings often within a meter of where you’re standing at any given time. They’re essential products used on the interiors and exteriors of homes, on furniture, cars, bikes, bridges, stadiums, ships, aircraft, refrigerators, wind turbines, laptops and much more. So we know that whether you’re a consumer or a business, finishing a paint job often takes a lot of effort. Owners, contractors, designers, fabricators and applicators all play a part in the final result, so we want to offer them all the best possible experience.

We are now closed for submissions

The submission phase of AkzoNobel’s second global startup challenge was live from May 18 to July 20. All the solutions are now being evaluated by our experts, who will give online feedback to the startups. A selection of participants will be invited to a three-day bootcamp in November.

Curious about the submissions we received? They came from startups all over the world – join our ecosystem to see them all.

IP: WE RESPECT OWNERSHIP OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP)

We respect ownership of Intellectual Property (IP). IP that you already own prior to the Paint the Future Challenge remains yours; and similarly, our existing IP remains ours. In addition, our starting point is that both parties should have appropriate rights in what we create together during the Paint the Future Challenge. If you get invited to the final of the Challenge, we will communicate clearly what specific IP terms will apply.

NON-CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

Whilst we respect IP rights, we also value the open sharing of non-confidential information, and building on contributors’ ideas. This is what makes the Challenge useful for all participants, and contributes to identifying successful innovations. This means that during the submission phase, your submission, and the information you share with us, will be received by us only on a non-confidential basis.
